The Devon Rex is commonly called, “the pixie of the Cat Fancy.” Pixies are mythical creatures of folklore, considered to be particularly concentrated in the high moorland areas around Devon and Cornwall. So no coincidence that the first Devon Rex cat was discovered by Beryl Cox, in Buckfastleigh, Devon, England in 1960! With their impish personality and their elfin looks they will definitely steal your heart. They are a mischievous, fun-loving breed which some say are a cross between a cat, a dog, and a monkey. Don’t be surprised when they leap from the floor to your shoulder in an unexpected attempt to get to the highest spot in the room. They will even perch on the narrow edge of the door top. To your dismay they will disappear and when you think all is lost they will suddenly appear in the back of a drawer or a box and it’s all just part of their game. Toss a toy or flip a ponytail band and they will play fetch over and over again. Wherever you are and whatever you are doing, they will find you and they will be right in the middle of it all. You may never sit on the couch alone once you own a Devon and if you have more than one then you just become the bottom of the Devon pile. Their amazing but needy personalities make them unsuited to spending long periods of time alone so we always recommend either another Devon or someone or something to keep them company.
